Buy Now, Regulate Later? The Legal Framework of BNPL Services under OJK Regulation Number 32/2025

On 15 December 2025, Indonesia took a significant step in strengthening its digital finance ecosystem through the enactment of Financial Services Authority Regulation Number 32 of 2025, establishing a dedicated regulatory framework for Buy Now Pay Later (“BNPL”) services.

With the rapid growth of BNPL across e-commerce and digital platforms, this regulation provides much-needed clarity on governance, risk management, reporting, supervision, and consumer protection standards.

This marks an important milestone toward safer and more accountable digital financing.
