To modernize the country’s maritime legal framework, the Indonesian Government has enacted amendments to Law Number 17 of 2008, now embodied in Law Number 66 of 2024 on Shipping. These revisions mark a significant shift in national maritime policy, introducing enhanced measures for maritime surveillance, restructuring provisions on port administrators, and supporting the revitalization of the shipbuilding industry.
