In 2021, the Indonesian Government introduced Government Regulation Number 96 of 2021 on the Implementation of Mineral and Coal Mining Business Activities ("GR No. 96/2021"), which aimed to regulate various aspects of mineral and coal mining business activities comprehensively. However, recognizing the need to streamline bureaucracy, enhance legal and investment certainty, the Indonesian Government enacted Government Regulation Number 25 of 2024 on 30 May 2024, amending several provisions of GR No. 96/2021.
